Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy onstage Reading 1974© Vin Miles |
The Vin Miles collection We are indebted to Vin Miles (right : pictured at Reading 1974) who was a keen amateur photographer, for allowing us to present his excellent collection of photographs from the 1974 Reading festival. To our knowledge this is the most extensive collection of photos of the festival apart from those taken by professionals who covered the festival for the rock weeklies . The advantage of Vin's collection is that he was not only able to take some excellent shots of the bands, but he also was part of the audience, so he was present when things happened in the arena , whereas the paid hacks were onstage or down the front behind a barrier shielded from the hoi polloi in the crowd . |
Thus Vin was there when the chip van was attacked and when ' Jesus ' was dancing in the crowd. His work at the festival from 1972-74 is a fascinating look at some rare aspects of the festival scene of the early 1970s . Below you will find links to other pages that contain Vin's photos of 1974, crowd shots, the Chip Van debacle and more.
The Archive is honoured to play host to these works . Many thanks VIn !
