Reading August 23rd-25th 1974. |
Photogallery Two : Phil Newson collection.
Hi,
Just a short note to say how much I enjoyed the site.
My first festival was Reading 1974 I was 18 and came on the train from London
on the Friday for a day trip.
I remember sitting on the grass waiting around a lot... a hippy had a cardboard
sign saying ‘I want to buy some Acid’ which did not strike me as
a good idea.
I also recall seeing that skinny hippy who danced non stop the whole time no
matter what the music was ..
I remember a band called Hustler coming on,, don't think the crowd thought much
of them. Then Nutz which I took photos of for some reason, I can still remember
the guitarists weird blue suit and red guitar.. of their set I can remember
nothing.
Camel came on and I recall I was really bored by their music, John Peel put
on records between the bands,, don't remember Alex Harvey at all? I do remember
they were promoting Sergeant Fury. . I missed 10cc altogether as they were very
late on stage and we had to get the train home... I know 10cc were fined by
Reading Council for playing too late at night.. I even saw a copy of the letter
as there was an exhibition about the festival in Reading library a few years
back . .
NUTZ
Attached pics are of
Nutz, plus a bored looking security guard.
Best wishes
