Norwich Fairs 1982-86

Free and commercial.

Part two

Norwich Peaceful Faire 1983.

Earlham Park Norwich .

1st - 3rd July 1983.

Paying : one pound per day entry fee , 50 pence unemployed

"There had been a few free festivals near Norwich in previous years but this time someone had the idea of asking the council if the fair could use Earlham park and they'd agreed, so it was going to be a legal one. An organising group of mostly squatters from Norwich's Argyl Street (at the time one of the largest squats in Europe apparently) and uni students had booked the park from the council, somehow I don't think that would happen now."

To read more on this festival go to the external site about the festival , which features high quality audio of the bands that performed and many great pics

We are proud of the contribution we have made to Andy Worthington's sociological history of Stonehenge and the free festival scene in the UK .This new book gives a fascinating insight into the various counter cultural obsessions with the Stones and provides a variety of new perspectives to many of the key events surrounding the Henge such as the Battle Of The Beanfield and the more recent attempts hold a celebration at the Stones during the Solstice.

Find out more about this great book by clicking on the image on the left and visit the Heart of Albion Press web site .

Sending details of a small book I've just self-published which might be of interest to some readers of your admirable site.
