a) can anyone tell me why Green Bay fans strap cheese to their heads?

From: MARKEEFE Subject: Re: reviving an old thread (wombat content 0%) I would bet that most of us Fegs would agree with James that Robyn's non-sequiturs *do* make sense in some odd way. But maybe there's just some sort of a circular relationship going on there. That is to say, perhaps we like Robyn Hitchcock (in part) because his nonsensical lyrics make sense to us and, so, of course, because we all do like RH, his lyrics will make sense to *us*. Maybe his lyrics don't make the same sort of intuitive sense to a lot of other people (you can picture them: lips curling up distastefully, eyebrows frowning, "This guy's just, like, weird or something") and, therefore, they could never become fans. This just means that we Fegs are particularly, um, "gifted" (read: cross-wired in the ol' frontal lobe). James, the reason for the Packer-Backers' donning of les chapeaux fromages is actually so straightforward that it's beautiful in its lack of intricacies: They make a lot of cheese up there in Wisconsin! About "les chapeaux fromages-" Green Bay used to be a huge center for meat packing. It may yet be, but I think that Wisconsin is only known now inside the US for the Packers football team and the cheese. In fact, 4 out of 5 US students identified the state of Wisconsin as "a large booger" on standardized geography tests (sadly, they also thought that "New Zealand" was "the planet General Lee surrendered to the X-Men in the Civil War.) I seemed to have slipped off the point here. When the fans were wearing meat on their heads, general, specific, and social hygene were a problem. Especially in the early season. That fad never really caught on. The Packers were kind of crappy back then too. happies, - -Markg
As a resident of the Windy City (close proxy to "cheeseland" <AKA the state of Wisconsin> for those not familiar with Midwestern U.S. geography) I can tell you in no uncertain terms there never was, nor will there ever be ANY "dignity" in being a Cheesehead (TM). ;) Cheezing On And Off... Jay

that Wisconsin is only known now inside the US for the Packers football team and the cheese It's also heavily industrial, and produces much of the nation's toiletpaper (I kid you not). Love on ya, Susan
Subject: On, Wisconsin! >> that Wisconsin is only known now inside the US for the Packers football team and the cheese It's also heavily industrial, and produces much of the nation's toilet paper (I kid you not). Don't forget that Wisconsin is also the land of serial killers - Ed Gein and Jeffrey Dahmer, to be precise - as well as Senator Joe "no sense of decency" McCarthy. Wisconsin also spawned Jim Mallon and Joel Hodgson, masterminds of "Mystery Science Theater 3000." And due to the high number of Norweigan settlers, lutefisk* is also rampant in Wisconsin. There's a Wisconsin bumper sticker that says, "If lutefisk is outlawed, only outlaws will have lutefisk *Lutefisk = codfish cured in lye, inedible except by Scandinavians.\
Having interned for the office of a representative from Wisconsin recently (don't even BOTHER with the clinton jokes!! :-) ), I can attest to the fact that some very intelligent people do come out of Wisconsin (even if my screensaver was of a bunch of guys wearing cheese hats and no shirts, poseing with the sign on the South Pole!)
What the heck is Robyn's recent fascination with cheese? (Cheese Alarm, Direct me to the Cheese, any others?)
A final note on Wisconsin: When I was little, my father used to tell me that everyone in his hometown of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, is actually a marsupial. Being a perspicacious lass, I asked him why he had a belly-button if he was a marsupial. He explained that Oconomowoc inhabitants have belly-buttons surgically implanted so that no-one will ever know of their marsupial nature... (It's true, you know.)this is too much. TWO mailing lists I am on are currently discussingLutefisk. Both are music lists. You want synchronicity? Or are there a number of Seancers out there on Fegmaniax!? James
