Serious Moonlight

Tour .

David Bowie

Icehouse

The Beat .

Bowie onstage, gone were the haggard looks and cocaine paranoia of the Thin White Duke persona , by 1983 he had morphed into a regular Mr Smooth .....

Excellent close up photos of Bowie at Milton Keynes 2nd July 1983 by Alan Perry

Interview with Denis O'Regan official tour photographer ( includes Milton Kenynes pics.)

At the height of his Serious Moonlight phase, Master Bowie took to the stage no less than three times over a weekend , entertaining around 150,000 in total with a little help from ozzie glam rockers Icehouse and the soon to be disbanded Beat . These shows were the final shows on this leg of the Serious Moonlight tour, but the tour itself was by no means over . The band traveled round the world ,winding up in Australia and New Zealand in November .

As Bowie was pretty much a major superstar at this point in his career, he was playing stadiums and ( as I saw him in Australia)- cricket ovals and BIG event arenas . The band ( apart from having some superb players such as Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick in its ranks ) was very theatrical, wearing exotic and eccentric costumes , which gave the crowds some eye candy to grok over. The brass section pushed the music into funky and dynamic directions . The show I saw cooked and the Serious Moonlight Tour DVD is good evidence of Bowie venturing into crossover pop territory without compromising his integrity with both band and its leader delivering a blistering set at the end of a gargantuan tour . He was on top form.

We know nothing about how well the support bands went down with the Bowie faithful, so we would like any attendees to let us know so we can inform the world of their fate .Were they bottled, worshipped or ignored ?

It was HOT, very hot , and the few photos we have show a crowd reveling in ( and perhaps suffering from ) the intense heat . Some comments we have seen speak of attendees suffering sunstroke and bad sunburn ..... not good !
